‘We Are HOW Fest’ aims to help fight opioid abuse
A concert to bring awareness to the opioid crisis and give help to those who need it. That was the mission tonight for Heart of Wilmington. This year, a study ranked Wilmington number one in opioid abuse in the country. Nearly 16,000 people die every year from prescription drug overdose. Today was National Overdose Awareness day, so the group brought the community together for the event.

Mental health first aid training held in Greenville
Dozens of people attended a first aid mental health training in Greenville Saturday. The training, sponsored by the Churches Outreach Network, aimed to teach attendees the signs of addictions and mental illnesses, an action plan to address those signs and help, the impact mental and substance use disorders have on the community, and where to send individuals who need help.

Adolescent rural suicide rates on the rise
In 2013, 17 percent of United States high school students seriously considered attempting suicide in the previous 12 months, according to a report by the Centers for Disease Control. The CDC also reported that in 2013, suicide rates in rural communities were almost twice as high as suicide rates in large central metropolitan areas.

Crisis Intervention Workshop
Adults and children with a serious mental illness and substance use disorders often lead lives characterized by crisis. These crises can potentially cause consumers to relapse, regress, and experience an increase of behavioral health symptoms. This interactive program will include guidelines defined as best practices by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA).
