  Mental and emotional health continues to be something that many people are struggling with during the pandemic, and that’s becoming increasingly true for children as well. But experts in the area say there are things that parents can do to help. For almost a year now, the coronavirus pandemic has completely upended our daily routines, and while some people have not had a hard time adjusting, settling into those changes can be hard for kids.

  The Greenville Police Department on Wednesday announced the launch of its Co-Responder Mental Health Response Program, in partnership with Integrated Family Services’ (IFS) Mobile Crisis Unit. The program officially begins next week.

  Protestors have taken to the streets of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, following an officer-involved shooting that killed a Black man who police say was waving a knife for the past few days. On October 26th, the video on the internet showed the moments before officers fatally shot Walter Wallace, Jr. Wallace’s family says he struggled with mental health issues and argue authorities should have made more attempts to de-escalate the encounter.

  Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control’s data from 2018. September is Suicide Prevention Month. It is being nationally recognized to inform the public and health professionals about prevention and warning signs.

  Law enforcement officers with two local agencies will soon be teaming up with mental health professionals to respond to sensitive calls for service. The Greenville Police Department is teaming up with mobile crisis counselors from Integrated Family Services and Trillium Health to create a co-response approach to suicidal or mental health-related calls.
